Drawing from the Past with Nancy Nickolson + Book Swap
Doors open at 7:00pm, The Talk begins at 7:30 pm.
This event will include a book swap. Bring in the history related books that you’re done with and trade with other attendees for fresh reads for 2024! Anything history related is welcome: be it historical fiction, local history, or from anywhere else in the world.
The art of illustrating the past isn’t just about referencing old photos. It’s about taking the time to truly understand; To create something new through storytelling.
Join local illustrator and museum professional, Nancy Nickolson, as she shares her journey creating artwork that connects people to the past. She’ll reveal the meticulous process behind her work, including how she created a detailed historic Edmonton map for modern eyes. Come hear her story and get a chance to see her original paintings up close!
She has illustrated for many exciting projects, including the children’s book, “Alphabet Stage”. In 2022, her “How to Perogy” recipe guide received national acclaim as she raised funds for humanitarian aid in Ukraine. In 2023 she created an ambitious historic Walterdale map for the City of Edmonton’s John Walter Museum, meticulously hand-painting all the elements. Her artwork is on permanent public display at the U of A and can be found in private collections around the world.
