Michael Phair’s presentation of his journey and community will highlight the importance of being visible to oneself and the general public. Citing barriers and resilience in moving forward from the past, Michael will talk about what today’s journey looks like. His talk will provide some thoughts on the future for older 2SLGBTQ+ persons with discussion to follow.

Currently coordinator of Edmonton Pride Senior Group and a member of the Edmonton Queer History Project. In addition to being in the 1st Pride Parade he was on the Pride Parade Committee for 10-12 years. From 1992 to 2007 Michael was an Edmonton City Councillor (first openly gay politician) and more recently was the Chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Alberta.
